AT THE ALBURY FAIR WITH A RECENTLY FULLY RESTORED TRACTOR AND IMAGES OF SOME OF THE ANTIQUES WE HAVE RESTORED !
As you can see from the image above, last weekend I was at the Albury fair promoting Snelling Associates and our ability to undertake highly skilled antique restorations around Dorking. I am pleased to say that this was very successful, as was the fair – which was held in some of the most glorious weather I can remember for years!
Of course, promoting our skills is not something that comes naturally to us. Like most craftsmen, at Snelling Associates, we spend almost all our time in the workshop deeply involved in our work. This tends to override everything else and sometimes the level of concentration required when we are tackling complicated work means that we forget to tell the rest of the world that we exist – and that we are really good at what we do.
Certainly, it is true to say that, over the years, we have been involved in restoring a bewilderingly wide selection of antiques. Indeed, our antique restorations around Dorking are proof (if ever it was needed) that the homes of Surrey are crammed with the most fascinating array of objets d’art.

Unfortunately, it is also true to say that not all antiques have been cared for well and much of the work that we do involves in returning neglected pieces to their previous glory (whilst carefully preserving their patina!). Equally, of course, accidents do occur and we undertake a great deal of insurance related work where antiques have been damaged, often by fire or water leaks. This is often interesting and challenging work for us and can involve almost completely reconstructing pieces – along with the making of new parts that have to be coloured, polished and inserted in such a way that no-one could ever notice that they are new!
